Following strong applications from 42 local authorities across Britain, our city of Doncaster is now depending on the public vote. If you’d like to see them become the headquarters of Great British Railways, here’s how you can help.
The public can now vote on which location they think should be home to the new Great British Railways headquarters and the result will be used to measure the level of public support for each location. This will be considered as part of final decision making. Doncaster is also gearing up for visits from Government ministers and GBR representatives as part of the process which takes place from now until 15 August 2022.
We are all encouraged to visit the following web link: https://consultations.gbrtt.co.uk/great-british-railways/gbr-hq-vote/consultation/intro/ and vote for DONCASTER.
Our railways play a fundamental role in supporting the economic, environmental and social achievements of the whole country. The competition to provide the national home for the new organisation, Great British Railways (GBR) – who will run the railway – stresses that the location must be outside of London, to bring jobs and investment opportunities and support levelling up in another part of the country.
Other criteria includes that places bidding should have a rich railway history, are strongly linked to the network, have good connectivity, be able to offer value for money and be able to demonstrate public support. We have all of these in Doncaster!
Given Doncaster’s historic links with the railways dating back to the 1850s and as the birthplace of the Mallard and Flying Scotsman, its central position on the East Coast Main Line and its air, rail and road links, we are ideally placed to host the headquarters of GBR.
In addition, basing the HQ in Doncaster will bring benefits throughout South Yorkshire, attracting further investment and create more jobs.
We have a strong bid, so if that all sounds good to you, if you have a moment to VOTE for Doncaster please head to https://gbrtt.co.uk/
