Our local Sands Utd team in Doncaster, are embarking on a 24 hour charity walk, to raise funds to build a bereavement suite at Doncaster Royal Infirmary.
Sands Utd is a unique way for dads and other bereaved family members to come together through a shared love of sport and find a support network where they can feel at ease talking about their grief when they’re ready.
The teams commemorate their babies’ all too brief lives by proudly displaying their names on the kit worn for every match.
“Inspired by our lads who walked the 92miles earlier in September, we decided as a team we would walk into babyloss awareness week TOGETHER!
Starting at 11am Friday 8th October and finishing 11am Saturday 9th October, we as a team will be continously walking around the Lake at Lakeside Doncaster. There will be AT LEAST 2 players at any one time walking, and accompanying us on this walk will be an empty pushchair. The empty pushchair represents all our babies lost to soon. We want to take your Angel’s on the walk with us, so Inside the pushchair will be a peice of card with our Angels names on, just send us a message with your Angels name and we will do the rest.
Weather permitting we hope to have a gazebo up where friends and family can congregate, and re hydrate our walkers whilst potentially raising awareness to passers by too!
If you’d like to join us, even if for just 1 lap, please come and find us between 11am and 11am.
Once we finish on Saturday morning we will then be heading over to our Home pitch in Norton in the 1st of 2 games that weekend.”
