There is no doubt that plant-based diets are receiving a lot of praise these days. For some people, it’s the ethical & environmental issues that make vegan food appealing, for others it’s the health benefits. Whatever your motivation, there are few people that wouldn’t agree that a plant-based diet is a good thing. Even if you’re not ready (or willing!) to go vegan, even going a bit “vegan-ish” is a good thing.
Often, one of the main problems that plant-based “newbies” face, is the lack of knowledge, planning & inspiration. Where do you even start? What happens when you’re running late or working long hours and you just don’t have time to plan a meal from scratch? What if the rest of your family aren’t going plant-based but you are? This is where allplants comes in…
“We believe we don’t need a handful of people being perfectly sustainable. Instead, we need millions of people doing it imperfectly. So we’re backing the flexi, providing support (and food!) to those committed to simply giving it a go”
So who are allplants?
allplants are chef-made vegan dishes, made using exciting plant-based ingredients, fast frozen & delivered straight to your door. You then store them in your own freezer and then heat up as required. You can choose from either microwaveable or oven cook.
The instant freezing by allplants ensures that the nutrition & taste is locked in. There are over 30 different meals to choose from. You customise your own delivery box and pick which day you want them to drive. You can change, cancel or pause your deliveries whenever you want.
As well as the main meals, you can order extras such as breakfast pots, smoothies & treats (Yum- Chocolate Peanut Fondant anyone?)
As well as buying the delicious allplants boxes for themselves, some people gift these meals to new parents to help them out in their first few weeks/months to ensure they are having a healthy meal. Here at Mumbler we think that is a fabulous idea and a really wonderful way to support a new parent, particularly if you can’t be there in person to support them.
As you know, here at Mumbler we like to try out the products ourselves so that we can give you our own real-life experience. For the allplants product review we approached a local dad, who has chosen a vegan diet for the health & cycling fitness benefits.
The rest of his family are not vegan and he works long hours, so he struggles to find the time to prepare vegan meals for himself. We’ll call him “Dad in Lycra” for the purposes of this review. We asked him what he thought of allplants (note, we haven’t used “Dad In Lycras” own photos of the food, because whilst he is a great cyclist, his food presentation skills are fairly lacking!)
First Impressions
The delivery arrived when I was out at work and so was left in my nominated “safe-place” The packaging was mainly recyclable & the packet dry ice was really impressive. I got home at 7pm and the box was still intact & the contents were still frozen solid. The packaging of the product itself was very simple & fitted into the freezer easily.
The Cooking
The cook time was very good, just 7 minutes from frozen and we were ready to go. A huge bonus for those working long hours that come home starving!
The Meals
Teriyaki Udon
Authentic flavours, very tasty and great mix of textures. really nice & spicy! It has a great nutritional value and really good quality ingredients. I think this is as good as anything you’d get in a high street Japanese restaurant (mentioning no names of course!)
Three Mushroom Risotto
This was a simple meal, very creamy & tasty I’d say it’s an excellent convenience meal and was ready very quickly, in terms of “fast food” you’d struggle to get a better taste for the effort, they’ve obviously spent a long time perfecting it.
Protein Power Bowl
This was my favourite out of the three, a very comprehensive dish in terms of flavours, texture and colour, lots going on. I’d say it’s very much like an up-market supermarkets Plant Based (again, mentioning no names!) products but nicer & much more balanced flavours.”
All in all, “Dad in Lycra” is now a fan of the allplants food delivery. His parting words were that it was the balance of flavours coupled with the convenience that he liked best.
For the purposes of providing a thorough review, we also asked another non-vegan, committed meat-eater Mumbler Dad to test the allplants offering. I think he was genuinely surprised by how much he enjoyed the food. “They are actually really delicious. I didn’t miss the meat at all!”
Allplants are offering Mumblers £10 off their first box with the code “MUM10”
