It was a gorgeous, chilly but sunny day and the scenery around the nature reserve was beautiful! You wouldn’t know you were just off the M18 too as very peaceful. If you’ve not been in a while, or never visited, it’s a great place to enjoy a walk with the kids! Lovely place to get outside in the fresh air. There are various routes all year round, of varying lengths, but the Winter Wonderland Trail is about 1.9 miles and generally pathways, so I’d say fairly buggy friendly.
The Winter Wonderland trail is running at Potteric Carr until 19th February and you can find nine willow sculptures along the route. See the map below – you can download it here.
There was a special drop in campfire event running when we visited, with toasted marshmallows and hot chocolate, which was a lovely surprise and really cosy in the woods. There is a great mud kitchen, which kids of all ages can’t resist and some den’s to play in! Lots of craft activities and nature games to do too.
There are also a few bird hides along the way, sheep in the fields, bridges to cross and there are some wooden sculptures that are there all the time, so lots to look at as you walk.
The Winter Wonderland trail is free with entry to the nature reserve.
These are the latest prices for the nature reserve:
Members of The Wildlife Trusts: Free
Adult £5.00
Child £3.50
Family £12
Concession £4.00
We can recommend the cafe too. The cafe is in the visitor centre as you enter and leave the nature reserve. (If you’ve not been for a while, you might remember when it was further around along the route – it was re-vamped 6 years ago and has lots of facilities, toilets, baby change etc.)
The kids had the biggest warm sausage roles and said they were delicious. The hot chocolates and coffees were great too and there was hot soup, hot and cold sandwiches etc. There’s also a little shop.
We had a great family walk. Grandad came along too and it was great to get out in the fresh air.
Do the Winter Wonderland Trail at Potteric Carr until the 19th February, a great fairly low cost day out in Doncaster. 💜
