We have subscribed to The Week Junior for the past year, with my daughters copy coming through the door every Friday. It has become her weekly routine to get home, grab something to eat and sit and read it cover to cover. I won’t lie, she’s an avid reader anyway, I don’t struggle to get her reading, but this is an absolutely brilliant current affairs magazine for kids aged 8-14 that means she knows what’s going on in the World right now.
It’s written in a great way, with complicated terms and jargon explained so that kids can understand. The ‘This Week’s Big News’ section enables my daughter to join in conversations or express an opinion about something that is going on in the world and sometimes surprises us with her knowledge and undertanding of something.
It has an ‘Around the World’ Section which my daughter likes to see what’s going on and actually I think it broadens her outlook and helps her see a wider view of the world.
We love ‘The big debate’ too. This section asks kids what they think about certain topics, giving reasons for and against something. It’s great as it gives kids the chance to offer an opinion after assessing the facts. We have visited the website a few times to vote and give our view and my daughter likes to see what the result was in the following weeks magazine.
My daughter also likes the puzzles and baking recipes or craft things to make.
It’s fair to say that she really does get her money’s worth out of our subscription and actually has quiet a collection now that she re-reads occasionally. It helps with vocabulary. confidence and well being too as they have some great articles about self-care and being kind.
Take advantage of the 6 editions FREE for new subscribers and get 6 weeks worth of magazines to enjoy over the summer holidays.
