Playgroups of any kind are brilliant places to go to meet other parents, be part of a community and get out of the house. They’re good for the little ones and for mummy (or daddy!). It turns out they’re great at any age!
I jumped at the chance to go along to a new kind of playgroup with Tots Play Doncaster East last month, Nippers and Nappers – Intergenerational Playgroup. The first that I have heard of in Doncaster, it was held at Rose House in Armthorpe.
Set up by Claire at Tots Play (you can find all of their classes in Doncaster here), the session was welcomed by Nikola, Activities Coordinator at Rose House who said that “the residents thoroughly enjoyed it and it sparked energy and delight throughout the home for the next week. When shown photos a while after the event, it created many magic moments once more. Seeing mother’s and babies brings back fond memories and happiness for many people, but it is particularly special for people living with dementia.”
Around ten mums with babies under a year old came along to the group and the atmosphere was lovely from the beginning. It was lovely see the ladies and gentlemen interacting with the little ones, joining in with singing nursery rhymes, popping bubbles and even having a little cuddle. Who can resist baby cuddles! The room was full of colour and activity.
Claire from Tots Play set the session up as her own Grandmother is a resident at Rose House. It went so well that another Nippers and Nappers session will take place on Tuesday 14th May 2019 at 10.00am – 10.45am. The class is completely free and it is best suited for younger tots (8 weeks to confident crawling). Anyone interested in going along should contact Claire on or via the Tots Play facebook page
