Many of you will know that the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is no longer available to children in Doncaster. This was a fantastic project and a cause close to my heart. We at Edwards & Walker opticians have decided to launch a new Book Swop in time for Roald Dahl Day this year!
I’m the Owner/ Optometrist at Edwards and Walker and have three children, a 5 year old, a 2 year old and a new born. My eldest have been recieving Dolly’s books and when they saw the new one arrive, their faces lit up!
This got me thinking…many of you know that my specialism is in Children’s vision. In a nutshell, un-corrected long- sightedness/astigmatism/short-sightedness has been known to show an impact on early literacy skills. I will be doing another Mumbler blog soon to go in to each aspect of vision, literacy and visual perception in more detail.
But for now, let’s raise the awareness of literacy and and what better way than a book swop to get you guys talking about it! Literacy development is a process that begins in early childhood. Lots of books have been donated by myself and Doncaster Mumbler to start this project off! If you have any un-wanted books that you would like to donate, that would be greatly appreciated.
Pop in when you’re next in town, bring your little ones, take a book and return it when read. Take another…there is no better feeling than getting lost in a book!
We also have some ‘100 Things to do to in Doncaster” seeds for you to take away, so that your little one’s can grow some cress (and tick something off their 100 Things list) as well as their imagination!
