If you’ve older children who aren’t so much up for soft play any more, you might be looking for things to do indoors and places to go where they can still burn off energy inside somewhere.
We have picked out lots of places in Doncaster and South Yorkshire that are great for slightly older kids or that you can do as a family including climbing, inflatables, laser tag and skate parks.
Rock Up, Meadowhall, Sheffield
Rock Up is a thrilling climbing centre at Meadowhall. There are 17 fun climbing walls towering over 8m with multiple routes to their peaks. Great for all ages & abilities (suitable for 4 years+). There is also a soft play area and a café serving fresh coffee & food. We have visited both the Meadowhall venue and Hull (pictured) and enjoyed climbing with the kids.
Doncaster’s only indoor skatepark. Amazing ramps to skate, scoot or ride. Lesson are available here too.
Go Bounce Extreme Trampoline Park
Go Bounce is a great place to have fun, get fit and meet new people. They have over 50 interconnected trampolines, jump platforms, a tumble track, an air bag, basketball hoops and a challenge zone. Suitable for 4 years plus but toddler sessions and family sessions are available.
Nova City, Rotherham & Barnsley
Nova City Rotherham features the largest indoor Parkour Park in the UK, a Dance studio, a Spring floor and an Aerial performance area. The building hosts classes Monday to Saturday and caters for all ages and abilities.
Nova City Barnsley features a trampoline hall, parkour park, dance studio and sprung floor. It’s open seven days a week and operates classes and free play/open session opportunities.

An indoor inflatable theme park offering toddler, family and open jump sessions with access to drop slides, wipeout zone, dual ninja run, obstacle course and reaction dome. Great fun for all the family.
Huge indoor inflatable park. We visited and it’s an hour of non-stop bouncing and was good for all ages (we had children aged 7, 10, 11 and 13 with us). Indoor trampolines, inflatables & ninja parks which are packed with activities to suit everyone.
Ninja Warrior UK Sheffield Adventure Park
Inspired by ITV’s hit programme, you can climb, balance, jump and swing across different obstacles using and developing your Ninja skills. A great place for family activities and for keeping fit, this is definitely on our list of places to try.
The Climbing Works has three centres to cater for all ages and abilities in the climbing community.
The Climbing Works is the original dedicated bouldering wall for climbers who like good boulders, good music and good company.
The Mini Works is a centre for young people and families, including parents who don’t climb but want to supervise their children.
The mini Mumblers have been a few times and loved it.
Recommended by our sister site York Mumbler, this is a huge indoor family fitness park and looks like great fun for all ages.
Lock and Load Play Arena Rotherham
Lock and Load is a laser and nerf-quest gaming arena. It’s a purpose built, extremely large combat space where they host action packed games and offer both pay and play and membership options.
Bowling – always a great indoor activity with the kids. Tenpin Doncaster also has pool, table tennis, and many arcade games so plenty for the older children to enjoy.
The Dome is one of Doncaster’s leading sports, leisure & entertainment destinations, with over 50 activities taking place under one roof so lots to keep the whole family entertained. Home to a great split level ice rink and a swimming pool with lots of slides, flumes and fun stuff.
