As we have had some lovely weather and everyone has been enjoying their paddling pools during the lockdown, it’s important to remind ourselves of some key water safety tips…especially this week during Drowning Prevention Week.
Whilst we can’t teach our lovely baby and pre-school lessons right now, here are some tips to stay safe at home, on your family walks or even on holiday near water. #BeALifesaver
- Children will gravitate towards water. Teach them never to enter the water without supervision.
- Always be on the look out for warning signs and learn what the different coloured flags mean at the beach.
- If you do go near the sea, always stay in a safe depth. Never use inflatables. Be aware of rip currents and if caught in one, swim parallel to the shore.
- For water based activities, discover the safety arrangements and whether there is lifeguard cover.
- Do the activities and exercises you usually do in class to make your little one a better (and safer) swimmer. We have loved seeing our little Puddle Ducks in their paddling pools practicing at home!
- Use a fun game or quiz to ask your little swimmer what water safety tips they’ve learned either in their swimming lessons or paddling pool.
- Keep our safety tips at the back of your mind and make sure you and your little swimmers enjoy yourselves!
