The weekend of May 8th-10th is the weekend to commemorate and celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE Day, marking the end of the war in Europe.
If you would like to explain what VE Day is to the kids and help them understand the events that led to the end of the war, here are a few educational resources that might be helpful.

VE Day on the TV – Friday 8th May 2020
- BBC1, 11am – Nationwide 2 minute silence
- BB1, 2.45pm The Announcment of Victory – Tribute to the war generation including Churchills radio address. Celebrities will read testimonies and there will be music. Prince Charles will read an extract from his Grandfather George VI’s diary for May 8th.
- BB1, 7pm – The One Show, Hour long special
- BB1, 8pm – An evenings entertainment with some of Britains top musical talent performing songs from the 1930’s and 40’s.
- BBC1, 9pm – The Queen will speak to the nation at exactly the same time her father, George VI addressed the nation in 1945. Followed by a sing-a-long of We’ll Meet Again led by Dame Vera Lynn from a window at her home in Sussex.
