The Tour de Yorkshire is the most famous road cycling race in the UK, bringing some of the biggest names in the sport to our county for an epic race, uphill and down dale. What began in 2015 as a legacy race from the Tour de France has quickly become one of the most celebrated sporting events in the country. Last year more than 2 million fans lined the route – enough people to fill more than 22 Wembley Stadiums!
And in 2019 the Tour will be bigger and better than ever, as it’s now been upgraded to HC status by cycling’s world governing body the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) – the highest category possible for a multi-day race outside of the UCI World Tour. This year the TDY will run from Thursday May 2nd to Sunday May 5th.
Here you’ll find everything you need to know about watching and supporting the race, as it passes through the streets of Doncaster.
Doncaster will host Stage One of the Men’s Race on Thursday 2nd May 2019. The start of the race will begin in what will be our newly refurbished market square which will showcase our historic market to the world.
The cyclists will then ride out past the Mansion House, Hallgate, Christ Church and then over St Geroge’s Bridge on to the A19. The route will then go through:
The race will leave Doncaster at Norton and then travel through much of East Yorkshire and finish in Selby, followed by three more days racing across Yorkshire. See all of the race stages here on the Tour De Yorkshire Website.
To follow the race in other areas of Yorkshire head to North Leeds Mumbler, Hull Mumbler, Ripon Mumbler, Nidderdale Mumbler, Harrogate Mumbler and York Mumbler.
A film of the drive-through of the race through Doncaster can be seen here.
If you’re going along, why not pop in for something to eat at one of our Mumbler recommended cafes or restaurants. If your house, school or community centre is on the route itself, why not join in by putting up some Tour de Yorkshire decorations or creating some land art that that can be seen from the TV helicopters.
I’ll be keeping this page up to date with more information about community events throughout the Tour De Yorkshire, but keep an eye on the Doncaster Mumbler Facebook. page too.
