Following a successful year long ‘Back the Bid’ campaign, which I was pleased to support last year (Back the Bid RLWC 2021 Doncaster), it was announced this week that we did it!
Doncaster, our town, will have all eyes on us as we prepare for and host three men’s group games! Hosting a global event is a huge thing, which will bring thousands of spectators and a massive buzz of excitement.
Who remembers the Olympics in 2012? We all do…I especially remember taking my then 8 month old daughter to see the procession of the torch going through Hatfield and then we went to London towards the end of the games, just be in amongst it. We didn’t have tickets for anything, we just wanted to be in the ‘moment’ and the atmosphere was brilliant. My daughter still has an Olympics ‘Wenlock’ mascot in red, white and blue and knows she got it at the Olympics.
If we can re-create anything like this in Doncaster, it would be amazing. I’d love to think that spectators from all over the world were heading home with a Paddington Bear or something in their suitcase, picked up from our Tourist Information!
We have a lot of sporting events happening this year, with the Tour De Yorkshire and UCI Bike Race
Never a better time to introduce our children to sport, whatever age…take a look at our weekly classes and groups area to see what is available near you!
