Summer is just around the corner and potentially a summer with fewer restrictions than we’ve had for a long time. As those restrictions relax and it becomes safer for us to meet up with friends and family we haven’t seen in months, to get together, catch up and have some fun.
To celebrate the importance of play in the lives of children and young people, the NSPCC has launched the first national Childhood Day. On June 11, we’re asking Mumbler readers and their families to sign up and take part in any kind of play activity to help us raise money to support children and young people across the country.
We’d love to see Mumbler readers and their families help us mark the first national Childhood Day by having a bit of fun for a good cause. You could have a board game marathon, design your own sports day, have a sponsored kickabout or an online gaming session, but however you choose to support us, every pound raised will help children here and across the country.
The NSPCC relies on public donations for 90% of its funding, and it costs £4 for one of our specially-trained counsellors to answer a contact from a child who has built up the courage to speak out and seek support.
But it’s not just about raising money.
Since the pandemic began, our Childline volunteers have delivered more than 73,000 counselling sessions to young people who have contacted us with concerns about their mental and emotional health.
Playing boosts our mental and emotional wellbeing, so just having a little fun with friends and family can help your children feel that little bit better. However you choose to play on Childhood Day, you can play a part in helping us be there for children.
