Last year, the EXPECT Summer programme rolled out with a huge bang! Over the course of 6 weeks, almost 11,000 attendees enjoyed a range of activities organised by EXPECT Youth, with partners such as DARTS, Active Fusion, EPIC, DCLT, Club Doncaster Foundation and Flying Futures.
Thousands of young people facing disadvantage had the chance to take part in FREE activities such as Zorbing, First Aid Training, Hair & Beauty, Castle Club, Dance and Multi Sports…the list goes on! With help from Fareshare, the Schools Catering Team and Moorends Miners Welfare, the programme was able to prepare and provide free healthy meals for children and young people at sessions. The good news is, the programme will return this summer 2019!
As a result of last years programme, more children and young people have the opportunity to get involved in extra-curricular activities too, with 40 activities delivered by 20 specialist organisations tthrough the Essential Skills Programme, which is available for 5-18 year olds.
Kicking off on the 22nd July for 6 weeks, there will be a huge variety of activities across eleven areas of Doncaster! With over 20 FREE activities to choose from throughout the week, per area, children will never be stuck for something to do.
Keep up to date and see the activity calendars/book on to activities with EXPECT Summer on their website here

I’m delighted to be helping organise the 4th Doncaster Big Latch On this Year, along with our friends Baby Dinosaurs Kids Markets!
Last year, 175 people and 72 breastfeeding mums headed to Sandall Park to join Mumworthy in the big latch on count at 10.30am, participating with up to 60,000 breastfeeding/expressing mums all around the world and their friends and family.
This years event is on Friday 2nd August 2019 from 9.30am. Siblings, older children, friends and family are very welcome. Bring a picnic blanket for an informal get together. The past three years have seen beautiful sunshine on the day, so hopefully we will be lucky this time around!
The brilliant thing about the Big Latch On is that if you’re a new mum, there is everyone you could wish to speak to in terms of support there – the family hubs, health visitors, breastfeeding support team, pre/post natal care providers…all in one place. Plus you will meet other mums.
Sandall Park has lots of play areas for older children and we will be announcing other participating companies soon! Puddle Ducks Doncaster will be joining us, along with the NCT Doncaster, Baby Bumps Yoga and more, plus there will be some free fun activities and a bouncy castle too. We’ll even have ice cream.
For now, put the date in your diary and join us on 2nd August.

For the Minecraft fans in your family we’re once again mixing up the ancient and modern with a second season of our popular castle building workshops, curated by our expert cube construction friends at Blockbuilders.
Last year these were hugely over-subscribed, so this summer we are introducing a series of ticketed events.
You need to reserve and pay for your place in advance – details of How to Book will follow soon.
Normal admission prices to the site where the workshop is taking place also apply. We’re also providing our new Castle’s Kit, a collection of pre-built essential features no worthy fortress should be without, so whether you’re an expert or a first-timer, getting started has never been easier.

Live Life Adventurously!
Our nearest Go Apes’ are:
Normanby Hall Country Park, Normanby, Lincolnshire, DN15 9HU
Sherwood Pines Forest Park, Edwinstowe, NG21 9GL (Also have a brand new Nets Kingdom which opened in Summer 2018 – this looks amazing and is suitable for younger children who might find the Tree Top Adventure or even Tree Top Junior a bit difficult or high. We visited in the summer and my then 4 year old enjoyed the Tree Top Junior half way round, but was terrified of the zip wire. The Nets would have been a good option for him).
Dalby Forest, North Yorkshire Moors National Park, Low Dalby, Thornton-Le-Dale, YO18 7LT
The parlour can be found next to Thorntons and will be open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 10am – 6pm, Thursday 10am until 8pm, Saturday 9.30am until 6pm and Sunday 10am until 4.30pm.
Everyone is welcome to drop in to play on one of the three table tennis tables in the parlour. Simply grab a bat and play – absolutely free of charge!
Little Learners will be holding their session in the park again this summer at Sandall Park.
There will be trays of messy play, paint, sand, play-dough, dancing, water play, outdoor games and more…
Suitable for ages 5 months to 5 years, but older children are welcome to join in the fun too!
