We are lucky to have the choice of two cinemas in Doncaster, both of which offer great value children’s screenings at weekends and in school holidays.
Go Bounce Extreme Trampoline Park– A fantastic place for the kids to burn off some excess energy! It’s also a great place to go if you have children of mixed ages as there’s something for everyone here. They have dedicated family & toddler sessions at the weekends and in the school holidays, aswell as open bounce sessions for older children.
Flip Out Doncaster, Frenchgate Centre – Great for all ages as they have trampolines and also a soft play area.
Bake, Battle and Roll is Doncaster’s first board game cafe which was recently named as one of the UK’s ‘most loved local businesses’. With over 600 games on the shelves to suit all ages, abilities and interests there’s definitely a game for everyone. It’s open 5 days a week from Wednesday to Sunday.
The Dome – With so many activities under one roof, Doncaster Dome is the perfect rainy day venue. Swimming, ice skating, soft play, food & drink; what’s not to love? Plus, if you book a big splash swimming session and ice skating on the same day, you’ll get 20% off the cost of your activities.
Tenpin Doncaster is packed full of exciting activities including pool, bowling, table tennis and arcade games so plenty of fun for the whole family. They also have a cosmic ‘glow in the dark’ bowling session here which sounds fab. If you’re bowling with little ones, don’t forget to ask for the bumpers and the ramps!
You can also bowl at Kingpin Bowling in Adwick. There is an 8 lane bowling alley, American Diner, children’s soft playarea (Playzone) and arcade zone.
There are four themed escape rooms to try in Doncaster town centre at Enigma Live Escape Rooms.
Sunnybank Gardens & The Yorkshire Ice Cream Farm – Ice cream might not be your first thought on a rainy day, but don’t forget that Sunnybank has a large, undercover play barn full of inflatables so why not combine the two? I’m sure the kids won’t be complaining! Dogs are also very welcome here, they even sell doggy ice cream!
The South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum hosts a vast collection of aircraft and helicopters from the first years of flight, right up to the modern day. There are interactive exhibits and open cockpits to explore so it’s an interesting day out for the whole family, whatever the weather. There’s a shop onsite too which sells hot and cold drinks, cakes, snacks and ice creams. Quote ‘Doncaster Mumbler’ on arrival to receive two entry tickets for the price of one.
Doncaster Gallery, Library & Museum is open all year round and is very family friendly with a good range of activities to keep the children interested and entertained. If you haven’t been here since it’s re-opened then it’s definitely worth a visit. Another plus is that it’s free, so a great place to spend a few hours on a rainy day.
If you have children who love to get creative then The Twisted Knot at The Yorkshire Hive would be a great place to spend a rainy day. The kids can create beautiful pieces of wall art themselves whilst getting creative with colours, stains and finishes. No skills are required and it’s suitable for children of any age with parental supervision. Booking in advance is recommended but drop ins are welcome, just send a message first to check availability. If you’d like to learn more about The Twisted Knot, you can read their blog HERE.
