The clubs are led by volunteers, like myself, who are passionate about supporting members of our local community to become more active. We have very specific systems of support which means we can support people of all abilities from complete beginners to people who are regularly active. Everyone is fit enough for Fitmums’ activities. We ensure that every activity is tailored to individual needs.
At Dearne Valley we offer run distances of 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 miles at each session so that you can just fit into the distance that feels right for you. Each distance has a dedicated, UK Athletics qualified run leader. You will be encouraged to run at your own pace and not feel any pressure to go faster than you are able.
You don’t need to worry about holding people up. We use a simple system known as ‘shepherding’ to enable all standards of runners and walkers to exercise together. Shepherding accommodates mixed abilities in a group and still provides a challenge for those who are capable but supports those who need to go at a slower pace.
We’ve been going now for a few years now and attendees have been of varying ages, fitness levels and running experience. What they have had in common is that they want to get fit, whilst having fun with friendly like-minded people.
We meet every Tuesday evening at Mexborough Athletic Club (New Oxford Road, Mexborough, South Yorkshire, S640JL). Arrive for a 6.30 pm start.
The first three visits are free after which there is an annual membership of £36 which gives you unlimited access to all 11 Fitmums groups and the sessions they offer within Yorkshire and the Humber.
Fitmums has allowed me to gain back something for me.. my me time! It’s more than just a weekly run – fun, friendship and I’ve got fit! I can’t recommend it highly enough! Emerald
Fitmums allowed me to meet people and share experiences. It help me through hard times, after the birth of my son I had depression the whole chatting and running got me through this. Now 2 marathons down and a half ironman round the corner I’m in a better place. Thank you fitmums. JeanetteI joined Fitmums after having my little boy with the intention of trying to get fit on the cheap and lose a bit of weight. What I actually gained was a this and a whole lot more – a group of wonderful new friends, me time, and a passion for running! Fitmums gave me back my sanity and focus. What I’m trying to say is fitmums is bloody brillaint! I can’t wait to come back! Hayley (our pregnant mummy!)

Whether trying for a baby, embarking on IVF, recovering from a recent miscarriage or have a newborn, entering the stage of ‘motherhood’ can be both beautiful and mentally testing. The transition into the role of ‘mother’ can be stressful and there may be times when you just want to give up.
Come along, hang out, grab a drink and we can chat about The Game of Thrones, Digestives v Hobnobs or what on earth the Teletubbies are on about – and when you want to talk about your mental health, you know you’re talking to someone who’ll listen and say those magic words ‘I’ve been there’.
Groups run in Rossington and Bentley (please check the dates on our facebook page as they run every couple of weeks – not every week). We can now offer parents 1:1 support at Doncaster Family Hubs, facilitated by Light staff and volunteers. Call us on 0114 438 8962 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for more info.

A running group, with courses for total beginners as well as people wanting to improve their running. We know how great it can make you feel and the sense of achievement for all of our runners after our sessions. THE POWER OF THE GROUP really works!
Beginners: An 8 week programme aimed at non-runners, people who are returning to running or people who fancy running with a group. We aim to be running 30 mins by the end of the 8 weeks and we get there by slowly building up the running time and decreasing the walking time.
Improvers: In our coached sessions we offer a variety of sessions all aimed at improving the performance of our runners. We work on speed, technique, drills, hill work etc.
Tuesday 7pm Advanced
Wednesday 6pm Beginners
Wednesday 7pm Improvers
