Old Moor lies in the heart of Yorkshire’s Dearne Valley. I hadn’t heard of it before but it is a family friendly nature reserve with a wide range of facilities and lots to do including walks, or wildlife watching, pond dipping or playing in the adventure playground. It’s always good to find somewhere new nearby and this is within 30 minutes travel of central Doncaster.
Thank you to Mumbler Louise, a parent and childminder, who recommended this place to me and sent me her review, together with some photographs that she took.
Today we visited with children aged 1-3 years old (easily suitable for up to 7 years though) and had such a fabulous outdoor adventure…Minibeast hotels, easy to use trail with wooden drum kit & xylophone, finding fairy houses, visual resources for common nursery rhymes, very exciting stepping stones, a tea party set for gingerbread men, leap frog game, hopscotch and name writing with natural resources. Just loved it!
And on top of that you can hire backpacks full of resources and visit the play area…although we didn’t need it.
Decent cafe and changing places facilities too. It’s lovely to share these hidden gems.
Louise is a Doncaster parent and childminder in Barnburgh (Louise Fleetwood Childminding).
