We had an amazing day out at Stockeld Park during the Easter holiday. We’ve never been before and we were so impressed with the place; there was so much to do and my mini mumblers (aged 3 and 5) had the best day from start to finish.
We started with the ride on tractors which are near to the entrance and gift shop (I think this is where the ice rink is situated for the Christmas and February half term events too). It was a large space with plenty of accessible toys for older children who can pedal and younger toddlers who haven’t yet learned this skill. There was no time limit so the children could stay in this area for as long as they wanted to.
After that we headed to the activity area where they had a go on the inflatable assault course, the giant inflatable slide and the bouncing pillow; all of which were lots of fun. In this area there are also some pedal go karts (suitable for 5 years plus) and Farmer Foster’s Playground which was really good for little ones. I think the kids would have stayed in this area all day if we’d have let them but it was time to go for some lunch. We ate at The Woodland Cafe which had a grill menu, a pizza menu, a children’s menu and a pasta bar. We opted for stonebaked pizzas and chips which were delicious! Stockeld is also a great place for a picnic though with its large open spaces and plenty of available picnic tables.
After lunch we headed into The Enchanted Forest which was absolutely fantastic! There is so much to see and do in here and there are adventure playgrounds around pretty much every corner! As part of the Easter Adventure there was a Rainbow Bunny Hunt where the children had to spot different coloured rabbits around the forest and record their names onto their sheet. At the end they were rewarded with a chocolate egg if they’d managed to find them all.
We were really impressed with the quality of the playground equipment at Stockeld (all of which was themed) and there was a great variety to cater for children of all age groups. There were so many other interesting things to spot whilst wandering through the forest too. The girls were really excited to see Rapunzel’s Tower and spent ages spotting all the little fairies in the fairy garden. There was also a witches house which you could go inside, a talking tree, a moving dinosaur and a large area to explore instruments and make music. In the middle of The Enchanted Forest is the Buccaneer Boating Lake where you can hire a boat for an additional charge. There was also an Easter Panto on as part of the Easter Adventure and you could meet and greet the Easter Bunny at set times.
Before leaving we grabbed ourselves an ice cream and decided to see if we could make it through the Magical Maze. Luckily, Mr Mumbler has a good sense of direction but we did need to take a photo of the maze map or I’m not sure we’d have made it out of there! Musical structures and interactive booths kept the little ones entertained on the way around and they enjoyed finding the globe in the centre of the maze and listening to the fascinating facts about people from around the world.
We didn’t leave Stockeld Park until it closed at 6pm so we had a jam packed day full of activity and it’s safe to say that the children were shattered on the way home. It was such a good day and they were truly entertained from start to finish!
