Little did we know what was to come, and whilst my plans of having these available for mums to pick up at their local family hub or baby group, class or activity went a bit pear shaped, due to the Corona Virus pandemic, I’m delighted to be re-launching them now at our New & Expectant Parent Event on 12th June 2022 at The Wool Market Doncaster. Lets spread the love and support for all mums, nana’s, grandma’s, aunties. We are all in in together. We are all in this thing that we are calling The Mumblerhood, going through the good times and the bad.
Our sister site York Mumbler had the lovely idea for these badges and I can’t wait to hand them out, I hope that they will act as ‘ice breakers’ and give those wearing them the confidence to connect.
Parenting can be difficult at the best of times.
When your child has a tantrum in the supermarket on the floor, you feel judged by people. We wanted to do something positive to help with that and extend the sense of community – that we already have online – onto the streets.
If someone is wearing that badge, they are a friend. If your child has a meltdown and you see someone wearing the badge nearby, you know you’re in it together with friends, you’re not alone.
The badges are deliberately small – about the size of a penny – and don’t have Mumbler branding. We wanted them to be subtle so even if you don’t want to have a conversation that day – you can still have a connection.
On a personal note, i’m privileged to have a Mumbler Family and over the past few years we have worked together to make sure that Mumblers all over the country know where to find support. If Mumbler has helped you in any small way, please share this article and give other mums, nanas, grandmas, aunties and carers a big HUGE virtual hug!
Use the hashtag The #Mumblerhood and we’ll know you’re there. We are using this term on social media and it would be great to hear your stories. Any act of kindness that makes you feel better, lets share it and brighten our day.
I really hope that the Mumblerhood will help parents brave new situations. I always loved going to baby groups and can happily talk to people, but for some this is really nerve wracking, especially when you have just had a baby. As with everything Mumbler, this is inclusive, for everyone. You don’t have to do anything, you can just wear it and it can be subtle.
Take part, share your story with #Mumblerhood
Join the Doncaster Mumbler Chat Group and stay social. Do join us at The Wool Market on 12th June, where we a schedule of expert talks as well as the Mumbler Mingle, so that new and expectant parents can socialise.
Hope to see you there.
