This blog was updated in December 2021:
Due to low attendance during Covid-19 this group no longer runs on a weekly basis. Andie now runs a facebook support group (A Thorne in my Boob – BreastMates) and offers support by appointment at the location below on Thursdays. She is happy to be contacted by ladies via Messenger and Whatsapp.
Andie is a mum of three, who has experienced the ups and downs of breastfeeding her own children and knew that others would be in the same position. Here is a little bit about her and how the support group was established:
“I was inspired by my local breaststart group who put me forward for peer support training in 2013. I learned that love, support and information is key for a healthy breastfeeding journey. Advice and opinions are given from all angles as a new mum and I learned that giving facts and not judging a mums decision or choice is far more helpful. Fast forward to 2016, I’d had my 3rd baby and there wasn’t a breastfeeding group in my area anymore. The nearest one was 2 buses away, so I spoke with Thorne Leisure Centre who amazingly gave me their sports hall every week. They were fantastic and I’ll always be thankful to them. In 2019, our local Pentecostal Church in Thorne gifted us the use of their cafe area for our gathering. It’s a perfect match for A Thorne in My Boob. We have toys, tables, a warm bright welcoming environment, great coffee and mums can bring their own lunch.”
Appointments available on Thursdays between 12pm-1.30pm.
